YOUR DESTINATION, IN CONTEXT
Madrid has a published GLD City Score of 89/100, in the High range.
Chueca gives a Madrid visit a recognisable LGBTQ+ starting point close to Gran Vía. Its appeal is not confined to a night out: books, museums and public spaces provide a daytime introduction too.

Madrid’s official visitor guide places Chueca beside Gran Vía and highlights the Museum of Romanticism among its cultural attractions. Plaza de Chueca provides a useful centre for exploring the neighbourhood. Combining a museum visit with time in the surrounding streets offers a different perspective from arriving only for nightlife; check the museum’s own visiting information when planning the day.
Sources: Madrid Destino — Chueca neighbourhood guideOn Calle Hortaleza, the tourism guide identifies Berkana as a specialist gay bookshop. This gives literary interests a concrete place in a Chueca itinerary. The guide also describes the district’s role in Madrid Pride, but everyday cultural life and a festival visit are different experiences. Confirm the relevant Pride edition separately if the celebration determines your travel dates.
Sources: Madrid Destino — Chueca neighbourhood guideMadrid’s recorded local-adjustment component is 97/100. Its GLD evidence summary highlights Chueca, venue density, Pride and international tourism visibility. These are signals used in the destination assessment, not a current inventory of establishments. Spain’s national foundation also contributes to the final city score: neither the local component nor the overall result certifies a particular business or guarantees a traveller’s experience.

A city score builds on its country’s context and adds local signals such as LGBTQ+ visibility, venues, events and tourism. A higher city score does not remove national restrictions.
BEHIND THIS SCORE
The source-based overview above adds local context. These are the recorded score components; the editorial research has not recalculated them.
Local adjustment is a component, not the final city score. The national context remains important.
