YOUR DESTINATION, IN CONTEXT
Tulum has a published GLD City Score of 69/100, in the Medium range.
Tulum combines a coastal Maya site, Caribbean beaches, cenotes and a fast-changing international hospitality scene. Its global lifestyle reputation creates LGBTQ+ visibility, but the GLD score remains deliberately more cautious than the destination's resort image alone might suggest.

The archaeological coast, Tulum town, hotel zone and inland cenotes have different rhythms and transport needs. Municipal tourism information also highlights canals, lagoons, diving and kayaking, so planning should account for distances rather than treating the destination as one compact beachfront strip.
Sources: Municipality of Tulum — Tourism Directorate · Municipality of Tulum — beaches, cenotes and natural attractionsMexico's tourism authorities include Tulum in national work on more inclusive LGBTQ+ tourism, while the local tourism office provides visitor and gender-policy contacts. This is a useful public signal, but the available official evidence is less developed than in destinations with a dedicated queer guide or established municipal Pride programme.
Sources: Mexico Tourism Secretariat — inclusive LGBTQ+ tourism · Municipality of Tulum — Tourism DirectorateTulum's GLD score is 69/100, with a recorded local-adjustment component of 52/100. Its international tourism exposure does not replace Mexico's national context or gaps in documented local LGBTQ+ infrastructure. The result is planning context, not a judgement about individual hotels or travellers.

A city score builds on its country’s context and adds local signals such as LGBTQ+ visibility, venues, events and tourism. A higher city score does not remove national restrictions.
