YOUR DESTINATION, IN CONTEXT
Cartagena has a published GLD City Score of 74/100, in the High range.
Cartagena combines a fortified historic centre, Caribbean waterfront and access to island and mangrove experiences. Its international tourism economy creates social visibility, but official LGBTQ+ visitor infrastructure is less clearly documented than in Latin America's most established queer destinations.

BEYOND THE NUMBER

Cartagena's official tourism material connects the historic centre and fortifications with Bocagrande, La Boquilla, Tierra Bomba and the Rosario Islands. These experiences require different transport and practical planning, especially for authorised boat departures and beach services.
Sources: Cartagena de Indias Tourism — seasonal highlights · Cartagena de Indias Tourism — visitor assistanceCartagena receives a large and diverse international audience, but the official destination sources reviewed do not yet provide a detailed LGBTQ+ guide comparable with those of Bogotá or other regional leaders. Gaylidays therefore treats resort visibility as one signal rather than assuming a documented queer district or permanent venue network.
Sources: Cartagena de Indias Tourism — tourism indicators · Cartagena de Indias Tourism — seasonal highlightsCartagena's GLD score is 74/100, with a recorded local-adjustment component of 77/100. The local tourism signal remains embedded in Colombia's national framework and limited destination-specific evidence. It is not a guarantee of safety or treatment in every district and island property.
Source: GLD scoring inputs. Interpretation of the recorded assessment, not a new score calculation.No. Bocagrande, La Boquilla, nearby islands, mangroves and fortifications outside the central streets create distinct experiences that require additional transport planning.
Sources: Cartagena de Indias Tourism — seasonal highlights · Cartagena de Indias Tourism — visitor assistanceThe official sources reviewed do not describe a concentrated district or publish a detailed queer visitor guide, so Gaylidays does not infer one from international tourism alone.

A city score builds on its country’s context and adds local signals such as LGBTQ+ visibility, venues, events and tourism. A higher city score does not remove national restrictions.
BEHIND THIS SCORE
The source-based overview above adds local context. These are the recorded score components; the editorial research has not recalculated them.
Local adjustment is a component, not the final city score. The national context remains important.
Cartagena uses Colombia national LGBTQ+ travel context plus local tourism, Pride/event, scene or venue evidence where available. Official LGBTQ+ tourism visibility is conservative where no city-specific official page was found.
