YOUR DESTINATION, IN CONTEXT
Marrakech, Morocco LGBTQ+ Travel Guide & GLD City Score
Marrakech has a published GLD City Score of 21/100, in the Very Low range.
Marrakech’s appeal as a travel destination and its conditions for LGBTQ+ travellers are different questions. A city can have a developed visitor economy while offering much less scope for openly LGBTQ+ public life.
No hotel has received a GLD score or a guarantee of safety. “LGBTQ+ welcome documented” is only shown where an explicit, attributable source has been found. There are currently no paid placements or affiliate links.
BEYOND THE NUMBER
LGBTQ+ travel in Marrakech: the local context
Source-based overview · external sources consulted 2026-09-27. GLD score dates are shown separately. Source: GLD scoring inputs. Interpretation of the recorded assessment, not a new score calculation.
Tourism visibility is not the same as LGBTQ+ visibility
Morocco’s tourist office presents Marrakech through the medina, Jemaa El-Fna, gardens and districts such as Gueliz and Hivernage. These describe the city’s visitor appeal, not evidence that an area is an LGBTQ+ district. In the GLD inputs, international exposure is much stronger than the recorded LGBTQ+ visibility signals. Our interpretation is to keep these two ideas separate: a destination’s familiarity with international tourism does not by itself establish acceptance or legal protection.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office states that same-sex sexual relations are illegal in Morocco. Its LGBT+ travel advice also warns about prosecution linked to public affection and about legal, personal-safety and privacy risks when meeting people through apps. These are national considerations, not exceptions that disappear in a tourist district. Read the current official advice before deciding whether and how to travel; this overview is not individual legal advice.
What a missing event record does—and does not—mean
The Marrakech GLD review recorded on 20 May 2026 did not find supporting evidence for the Pride/events criterion. That is a limit of the evidence collected, not proof that LGBTQ+ people, communities or private gatherings do not exist. The local-adjustment component is 32/100, and it should not be repurposed as a list of safe venues. We do not recommend particular meeting places from these inputs.

Questions about Marrakech
Does a tourist district remove the national legal risks?
No. The FCDO’s warning on same-sex sexual relations concerns Morocco. A district’s international tourism profile is not a legal exemption.
No. The GLD entry describes what the review found, not the existence or absence of a community. Missing public documentation should not be turned into an absolute claim.
