Planning a visit to Rabat
Rabat’s medina, kasbah, museums and neighbouring Salé offer a calmer urban experience than Marrakech. Rail links it efficiently with Casablanca, Tangier and Fez.
Same-sex activity remains criminalised throughout Morocco, including the capital. Diplomatic and international presence should not be mistaken for legal protection or open community visibility.
Rabat's GLD score is 19/100, with a recorded local-adjustment component of 22/100. The score combines the Morocco national foundation with available local evidence; it is context, not a venue certification or safety guarantee.

Questions about Rabat
Does Rabat’s international role reduce LGBTQ+ legal exposure?
No. Morocco’s national law applies regardless of diplomatic or tourism presence.
A city score builds on its country’s context and adds local signals such as LGBTQ+ visibility, venues, events and tourism. A higher city score does not remove national restrictions.
